Kumijo (Jo Kata) Class on Saturday, Sept. 27th + More News

Howdy all,

On Saturday, Sept. 27th we’re going to hold a special two-hour class (9:30-11:30) on kumijo, or two-person jo kata. We’ll also have some guests joining us, so please welcome them. Anyone of any level is welcome to train, and if you have extra jo bring them with you to share.

In addition, this is to be the first class of a regular series of classes on weapons training. I’m envisioning holding one Saturday class per month to be specific to some aspect of formal Aikido weapons training, such as kumitachi, kumijo, tantodori, jo nage, etc. These classes will be announced ahead of time and are open to anyone, regardless of rank.

Lastly, with the success of our recent knife seminar, we are also going to focus a bit more on oyo-waza, practical application of Aikido techniques. I would like to begin working these classes into the rotation, most likely once per month on a Saturday, not to coincide with our formal weapons class. They will be announced ahead of time, so be looking for the first one soon.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask, and we look forward to seeing you on the mat!

Cheers,

Matt Lowry – Chief Instructor, dōjōshu (道場主)
